Why a patch has to be cut square

We cut the failed asphalt back to sound material on every side, square rather than ragged. A patch dropped into a ragged hole has nothing to key against at the edges, so it works loose. Once it is cut square we rebuild whatever is missing underneath and fill it with hot-mix, then compact it.

When repair stops being worth it

One or two failures in an otherwise sound driveway are worth repairing. Once the failures are spread across the whole surface, the cost of chasing them runs past the cost of resurfacing, and we will tell you when you have reached that point rather than keep patching.

How we do a repair

   You send a photo — a picture and the address with your quote request usually tells us most of what we need.

   We price the visit — one written price for the repair, with the minimum call-out set out in it.

   We cut back to sound asphalt — the failed material comes out square, and we rebuild whatever is missing underneath.

   We fill and compact — hot-mix goes in, gets compacted, and the edges are sealed against the surrounding surface.

What does the ground around Nanaimo change?

Broken edges are the common one on the older streets around the Old City, where driveways were finished flush against soft ground and nothing holds the asphalt at the side. On the rural approaches out toward Cassidy it is more often a settled section where the ground underneath has moved.
