New Asphalt Driveways in Nanaimo

Nanaimo Paving lays new hot-mix asphalt driveways across Nanaimo, Lantzville and Cedar. A 400 to 600 square foot driveway comes in between $2,000 and $5,700, and inside the City of Nanaimo the access permit adds $25 plus bonding. We build and compact the base before any asphalt goes down.
We charge $5.00 to $9.50 a square foot for new hot-mix, and building the base is inside that rate rather than added to it.
What a new asphalt driveway includes
We strip out whatever is there now, shape the ground, and build a base that will carry a vehicle. Then we lay hot-mix asphalt over it and compact it while it is still hot. Edges get cut and finished, and we clear the site before we leave.
Why the base does most of the work
The compacted base underneath is what carries the weight, and building it is where prep and base work goes — $1.50 to $3.50 a square foot on its own. On ground that has never carried a driveway, or where an old slab has just come out, there is more of it to do. We tell you how much when we have seen it.
When new asphalt beats a resurface
If the surface underneath is still sound, a resurface is faster and cheaper. New asphalt is the answer when the old surface has broken up through its full depth, when the base has failed, or when there was never a driveway there at all.

How we build a new driveway

We measure and quote — we walk the driveway with you, measure it, and put one written price together after that visit.

We handle the access permit — inside the City of Nanaimo that is $25 plus bonding, and in the District of Lantzville it is $200.00.

We prepare the base — we strip the old surface, shape the ground to drain, then build and compact the base.

We pave and finish — hot-mix asphalt goes down and gets compacted, the edges are cut in, and we clear the site.
What does the ground around Nanaimo change?
Driveways around the Old City and South Nanaimo tend to be short and hemmed in, so access for the truck decides how we stage the work. Out toward Cedar and Cassidy the approaches are long and often built on ground that has never carried more than gravel, which puts more of the job into the base.
